With the explosive growth of the internet and so many companies expanding their operations to the online space, the battle for the coveted first page listings in the top 4 search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask) are more competitive than ever. There are many ranking factors but essentially SEO can be broken down into two main categories, on-page factors and off-page factors. On page factors are things that can be done directly to the pages on a site and include keyword usage in title tags, header tags, document text and in the domain name or URL. Off-page factors are things that happen off of the site including keyword usage in links pointing to the site, age of links, authority of domains sending links, quality of pages sending links and subject matter of linking pages.
